Last updated: August 2026. The basic understanding for ordering from us. Plain language, no surprises.
WestSide 3D is a hands-on 3D printing and CAD design shop operating out of Modesto, California. We make custom items in PLA, PLA+, PETG, and TPU. We design from scratch when you don't have a 3D file.
When you submit a quote request, we'll review and reply with a price and rough timeline. An early figure is an estimate, since complexity, design rounds, and material choices all change it. Once we agree on a quote it holds, and if something would move it we raise it with you before doing the work rather than after. Quotes are typically valid for 30 days. Once you accept and pay, the order is in queue and we begin work.
CAD design work is billed hourly with a one hour minimum and comes in two forms. On Design To Print we model the item and print it, and the design file is not delivered to you. On Design To Keep you receive the finished model as a print-ready STL or 3MF file. Our working CAD source files are not released on either service. If a Design To Print project later needs the file released, you pay the difference on every hour already worked at the Design To Keep rate, less what you were actually charged for those hours. If you choose not to proceed to print after design work is done, the project moves to Design To Keep rates and the outstanding balance at that rate must be settled before the file is delivered. Any deposit paid applies to that balance. If you walk away entirely, no file is delivered and no further charges are made. Design rounds are billed at the same hourly rate and are quoted before work begins.
For custom work we send a payment link by email. Online shop orders are paid at checkout. We accept Stripe, PayPal, and cash apps such as Venmo, plus cash on a local handoff and sometimes a check for established business clients. We do not take purchase orders. Card details are handled by the payment processor and never reach us.
For larger projects we may require a deposit (typically 50%) before starting work, with the balance due before delivery.
We do not promise specific turnaround times. We give a realistic estimate when sending the quote based on current queue and project complexity. If a target date matters to you (an event, a gift, a deadline), tell us up front and we'll be honest about whether we can hit it.
We do not have a retail storefront. For local handoff in Stanislaus County, we meet at most public places (cafes, parks, parking lots) at a mutually convenient time. For shipping, we use USPS at going rates.
Risk of loss transfers to you when we hand off the package or when USPS scans it as in-transit, whichever comes first. We'll provide tracking when available.
We check work before it goes out. If you believe there is a problem with a piece, contact us and describe the issue. We look at each situation individually and work out a resolution with you. We do not offer a blanket reprint, replacement, or refund policy.
Normal wear, accidental damage, and any modification you make after delivery are not covered. 3D printed items show layer lines and minor surface variation by nature, which is not a defect.
Printed pieces you commission belong to you. A model file is delivered only on the Design To Keep service, as a print-ready STL or 3MF. On Design To Print no file is delivered. Our working CAD source files are not delivered on either service and remain ours. We retain a backup of every file so we can reprint or adjust later if you come back.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to print whatever you ask us to print. We will not knowingly print copyrighted designs, trademarked logos, or licensed characters without proof of authorization.
We do not take NDA work. We do not print in ABS, resin, nylon, carbon fiber or other filled composites, wood or metal filled filament, or any other material outside our PLA/PLA+/PETG/TPU lineup. We do not do metal printing or casting. We do not engrave. We do not do mass-production runs. Large identical runs, in the thousands, are beyond a shop our size and we will tell you so rather than take the job. We're a small shop and try to be honest about what we can and can't take on.
We print assistive daily living aids at no charge for people with disabilities. There is no cost for the device, the material, or local delivery in our area. Outside that area we ask you to contribute toward shipping. Up to three items per person per calendar year.
These are daily living aids, not medical devices. They are not certified, regulated, or tested to any medical standard, and they are not a substitute for advice from an occupational therapist or doctor. Use your own judgement about whether a piece suits your situation, and do not rely on one where failure would cause injury.
Because these are given rather than sold, they come with no warranty of any kind. If something breaks or does not suit you, tell us and we will do what we reasonably can, but there is no entitlement to a replacement. We may pause or limit the program at any time if demand outruns what we can absorb.
WestSide 3D is a business, not a registered non-profit or charity. Contributions toward the assistive program are not tax deductible and are taxable income to us. They are not donations in the legal sense, and we do not issue receipts for charitable purposes. Every dollar goes into filament, printer time, and shipping for the program.
If you ask to be listed as a supporter, your name or business name appears on the assistive devices page. We never publish amounts. Ask us and we will remove your name at any time.
Our work is made to order for you specifically. If you need to cancel, tell us as soon as possible. You remain responsible for design and print work already completed at that point. Anything not yet started is not charged. We handle cancellations case by case rather than under a fixed policy.
For consignment partner shops, the terms including the notice window for ending the arrangement are set in the agreement we sign with that shop. Inventory we have delivered remains ours until sold and is returned to us when the arrangement ends.
We're a small family business. Our liability for any project is limited to the amount you paid us for that project. We don't cover incidental or consequential damages (lost time, lost income, etc.).
Our pieces are for decorative, hobbyist, or personal use unless explicitly designed otherwise. Don't use a 3D printed item as a load-bearing structural part, in a safety-critical application, in food contact, or for medical purposes without explicit confirmation from us that the piece was designed for that use.
We may update these terms occasionally. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. The version in effect when you place your order applies to that order.
These terms are governed by California law. Any disputes are resolved in Stanislaus County, California.
